Empowered to Declutter! The bathrooms

There are probably tons of ways one can approach decluttering their house. Allie Casazza recommends starting in the bathroom, because that room has easy "yes" or "no" decisions in it. Dana K. White recommends starting in the most visible part of your home, because you'll have that visual progress to motivate you.

I started in the bathroom, mostly because my most visible rooms seemed under control on the day I started this journey and - if I'm being honest - my bathrooms were in need of a good cleaning! Therefore, I grabbed a garbage bag and headed to my bathroom. This is the bathroom I get all to myself, and I expected it to be a lot harder than it was. But Allie was right: this room was full of easy decisions! Toss out any products that are expired, such as makeup, toothpaste, hair sprays, cleaning supplies, lotions, everything that could expire. I went through all of my drawers, the cabinet under my sink, and my linen closet. After that, I made sure I had only necessary things in the shower. No extra razors or empty shampoo bottles!

Then it was time to organize. For me, I have limited counter space but plenty of closet storage. I put my most used items in a cute, wicker basket to be stored in the linen closet but that could be taken out easily to use every day. I tidied up the laundry and changed out my towels, and the whole room felt so much more manageable!

That was my biggest takeaway after going through each bathroom. Once I dealt with those things that had an easy answer ("yes, I need that!" or "no, toss it"), it was so much easier to even think of tackling the routine cleaning schedule. How much easier will it be for me to wipe down mirrors and countertops without the clutter of stuff no one needs in the way?!

Wait a minute... am I getting excited to clean my bathrooms?

Honestly, cleaning the bathrooms is my least favorite chore. I usually give that job to my kids. They actually enjoy it! But now that there's less stuff to move around, tackling the mess that can be the bathroom will be much less daunting.

These pictures don't do this justice. The cabinets are nearly empty! I got rid of so much stuff in this particular bathroom that I actually started a list of things I need to buy in order to restock and have it ready for guests to use.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by your bathrooms, don't be! I can totally see why starting with the bathroom will help anyone starting their decluttering journey gain momentum to keep going!

What are we going to get rid of next?

XO, Courtney

Decluttering Isn't Just About Your Home

Getting rid of access stuff in my house started out as simply cleaning the house. We had too much stuff! I constantly felt overwhelmed in our house. Then we moved and could not bring most of our thing
