Empowered to Declutter!

I grew up in the late 90's and early 2000's. My mom had a short-lived side business (along with all her other side gigs) of being an interior designer. That led to nearly every room in our house getting a layer of wallpaper on it. The kitchen, of course, had to have a theme - like most kitchens of this era. Our kitchen theme was grapes! The yellow wallpaper was covered in purple and green grape vines. Grape embroidered tea towels hung from the oven handle, the refrigerator handle, and most of the kitchen drawer handles. There was a glass bowl sitting on our dining room table overflowing with fake grapes. All of this was accented by: cabinets displaying China and knick-knacks... my mom's Coca Cola collection... a variety of vases and dusty greenery on top of the cupboards... You get the picture. It was busy! Imagine pretty much that in every room in our house.

Pictured: the infamous grape wallpaper, with a cameo from some family.

None of this is in offense to my parents! My mom meticulously decorated our home, she took amazing care of it, and I will always remember it fondly. But this paints the picture for you to understand why my house... well, it looks a little different. I also credit "the house that built me" with my recent interest in decluttering.

What I hope to accomplish with this series is to find peace in our life by decluttering excess stuff. My goal is to have less of what takes up our time so that we gain more time to do what we love.

I'll be following the advice of Dana K White (Decluttering at the Speed of Life) and Allie Casazza (Declutter Like A Mother).

The reason I'm making this into a series is because decluttering isn't a "one and done" event, it's a process. I'd like to take you along with me on this journey to keep myself accountable and maybe #Empower you to join me in the decluttering movement!
